This is cool. Try it and let me know your best score. My best was 72.3 meters after about 50 tries. (Does that show how much time I have got in my hands?) ๐Ÿ™‚

Lucky You – the movie

Read: a bit of spoiler here.

Being a poker enthusiast, I didn’t pass up on seeing the movie, Lucky You, starring Aussie Eric Bana, Drew Barrymore and Robert Duvall.

Huck Cheever (Bana) is an exceptionally skilled pro poker player but his emotions at the tableluckyyou_l200608171433.jpg undermines his skills when he is heads-up with his father L.C. Cheever (Duvall) who is a poker legend and has won the World Series of Poker two times. Billie Offer (Barrymore) is a young singer and aVegas newbie who has more heart than talent. Huck and Billie appears to have a knack for reading people, only they use it differently. Huck uses his gift on his opponents in poker and to avoid emotional commitments in his personla life while Billie’s intuitions make her see the emotional truth of the people around her and sympathise with them.

The story was really just about Huck trying to get the $10,000 entry fee for the WSOP tournament, thrown in with a bit of romance and conflicts with family. It was a bit long for a very simpe plot. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed watching it. I liked how the makers of this movie did not embellish the poker game with very good hands. It seemed more real when Huck won with a pair of deuces against an ace high and when he won with pocket 10’s against pocket 8’s but was then called a misdeal because the dealer who was stammering did not burn a card before the flop. The river was an 8 so Huck’s pocket 10’s lost to trip 8’s. The presence of a lot of real life professional poker players helped a bit too, methinks.

As the movie is centered around poker, it can a bit boring especially to those who are not interested and do not understand the game and its language.

Robert Duvall’s performance is worth mentioning. I’ll give him the bullets (pocket Aces in poker).

I have learned a new game this holiday break, the Yahtzee. Our usual poker game with two Brads (Shane’s bro and bestfriend), became a Yahtzee game. It is fun but doesn’t involve skill at all. It’s all luck.

And my luck sucks.

Wazz up, wazz up!

Can’t leave this journal to rot, I have to write something.- Been very busy at work in the past two weeks, it’s crazy. Work is coming in left, right and centre. It would likely be another week before I can sit for a long time in front of my pc at work. That is, if work stops coming in.

– Went to Copacabana last night with Janine, Ramille and some of their friends. The place was packed as there was a show. We had to stand on the side for a good two hours. A latin band called Peligro was playing. They were good but Shane and I thought the music were all the same. It would at first start different but in the middle would sound the same. Was it just us or the music was really monotonous? Then there ware the Brazilian showgirls who danced to Salsa and Lambada and their men counterparts did some breakdancing. The crowd seemed so enthused with the performers. They were good but not to Janine and mine’s taste. ๐Ÿ™‚ This is mainly because we have seen a lot of performances like these in the Philippines and boy, pinoy dancers are good. The Sexbomb girls and the Streetboys would give them a run for their money. But anyway, we went there to dance and enjoy, so we did. With my brand new dancing shoes, I danced till my feet ached.

– I have taken my love for the game of poker one step higher. Well, I’m not playing in the casino for real money but I have joined the Australian Poker League. APL holds poker games everyday in different venues all over Australia . It is free to join and play but there are actually prizes for the top 3 players. I started playing last Wednesday (19/07) at the Cheltenham/Moorabbin RSL club. There were over a hundred players and I was unfortunate to be taken out early in the game. I played again today and out of the 56 players, I finished fifth. Not too bad for a second timer. Currently, I am at the top 42 players of the venue. I will keep on playing and have a shot at the championships. Wish me luck….
