Inquirer at a glance

I check out Inquirer everyday to read Philippine news. The headline today says, “4 dead as ship sinks off Masbate”. My first reaction was, wtf?

What brought that reaction? The image below is a printscreen of today’s edition of

Looking at it, you will see the headline with a photo of Gloria Arroyo all smiles while surrounded by other people. The caption, which was in tiny size 8 font and in grey can not be seen right away (on my screen, that is). I have to scroll down a bit to read it. If you look more closely, above the headline are the words The GOOD NEWS. So at a glance, this is how I read the news.

4 dead as ship sinks off Masbate

(then with Arroyo’s photo) and Arroyo seems happy about it.

Twisting the facts, eh?? πŸ™‚

Update. I checked Inquirer at about 10:00 PM and the Good News link above the headline was gone. Good. Because the new headline was another sea disaster.

Well, The GOOD News is actually a special features page. To quote the page description – “Inspiring news and views that’ll make you proud to be Filipino.” This is a better read than all the other depressing stories in the home page.
